(CNN) — Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio on Wednesday became the first Republican to officially jump into the race to become the next House speaker.House Republicans are even more bitterly divided in the aftermath of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ouster and his decision not to run again – and it remains to be seen whether the conference can coalesce around a viable successor to the California Republican. The stakes are extremely high as Congress faces down a looming shutdown deadline in mid-November and the House is essentially paralyzed while it lacks a speaker.Republicans are slated to hear from speaker candidates at a forum next Tuesday, setting up the next possible House-wide speaker vote next Wednesday, October 11.Jordan is on a growing list of possible McCarthy successors, which also includes Majority Leader Steve Scalise, the No. 2 House Republican, Oklahoma Rep. Ravens roll over Browns, 28-3, behind ‘point guard’ Lamar Jackson’s 4 total TDs, dominant defense

Every day after Ravens practice, players take shots on a basketball hoop set up in the center of the locker room. Lamar Jackson rarely partakes — he’s not a basketball player.Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium, he only played like one.“Lamar kept his poise,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “He was running the show out there. He was the point guard, he was the general, he was making the calls, making the changes, handling the shot clock. He played a fantastic game.“The motions, the shifts, the checks at the line, changing the plays when we had to change the plays, single receivers when we had to single receivers, ball handling. That’s what makes him the quarterback he is, that’s what won us the game.”He wasn’t the only one. With the Cleveland Browns missing their starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson, and top running back, Nick Chubb, Baltimore had little trouble with their AFC North foe on a sun-splashed afternoon....

Another week, another slate of injuries. That’s life in the NFL, but especially for the Ravens, who, going into their game against the Browns, had the dubious distinction of leading the NFL in wins above replacement lost because of injury, according to Pro Football Focus. Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, a fourth-round draft pick last year who has seen sparse action on defense, suffered a hamstring injury and didn’t return for the second half. Right tackle Morgan Moses left late in the first half with a shoulder injury and did not return. He was replaced by Daniel Faalele. On Monday, coach John Harbaugh said MRIs of the injuries were still being evaluated but indicated none would be season-ending.“There’s really...

The civil case, filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, accuses Trump and his business of exaggerating his wealth in financial statements that went to banks, insurers and others. With accountant Donald Bender on the witness stand, state lawyers sought to show that Trump and others at his company had full control over the preparation of the financial statements. Bender testified Tuesday that the Trump Organization didn’t always supply all the information needed to produce the documents. Trump denies any wrongdoing, and his defense continued Wednesday to f...
