Try as you might, you’ve probably lost track of the more than 30 atmospheric river storms that barreled into the the Golden State since Oct. 1. But we haven’t.The animation above shows every atmospheric river storm, which has hit the West Coast since the start of the water-year on Oct 1. The data used in this animation was provided by the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E). The color of each storm signifies its associated strength, with black being the strongest level.And this year has been a doozy: In Northern California, we’ve already had 7 strong or greater-strength storms hit the region, according to data from CW3E. That’s considerably above the average of 4.7 for this time of year based on data going back to 2012.In Central and Southern California, where atmospheric rivers are generally less common, this season has been even more unusual. Bay City News ServiceA world-champion cyclist was struck and killed by the driver of a vehicle in San Francisco’s Presidio earlier this week.Ethan Boyes, a reigning Masters Track world champion, died in the collision reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday.U.S. Park Police responded to Arguello Boulevard south of Washington Street for a report of a collision between a vehicle and bicyclist. The bicyclist, later identified as Boyes, died at a hospital while the vehicle’s driver was also hospitalized but is expected to survive.No other details about the collision were immediately available from U.S. Park Police as of Friday afternoon.USA Cycling on Friday issued a statement mourning the death of Boyes, who was the current world champion in the Masters Track Men’s 40-44 Time Trial and Sprint events held last fall. CINCINNATI (AP) — Bengals running back Joe Mixon, a former star at Oakley’s Freedom High School, is again facing a misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing over allegations that he threatened and pointed a gun at a woman in Cincinnati earlier this year.City police issued a statement Friday announcing that they had refiled the charge “following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process” but did not provide further details. (KRON) -- One person is in critical condition after a drunk driver crashed into a power pole in Napa on Thursday night, the Napa Police Department said in a social media post. The crash occurred at the intersection of Soscol and Lincoln Avenue. Champion cyclist Ethan Boyes killed in San Francisco accident Officers responded to a major traffic collision. The driver was found to be DUI and later arrested, police said. The driver suffered only minor injuries. The passenger suffered major injuries and is in critical condition. (BCN) -- Oakland police are investigating the death of a child early Friday morning in West Oakland, police said. Officers located a child who was unresponsive around 1 a.m. in the 700 block of Market Street. Champion cyclist Ethan Boyes killed in San Francisco accident The child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to police. The name of the child was not available Friday afternoon from the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
