Canadian smokers will get a warning on every cigarette By Rob Gillies | Associated PressTORONTO — Canada will soon become the first country in the world where warning labels must appear on individual cigarettes. The move was first announced last year by Health Canada and is aimed at helping people quit the habit. The regulations take effect Aug. 1 and will be phased in. King-size cigarettes will be the first to feature the warnings and will be sold in stores by the end of July 2024, followed by regular-size cigarettes, and little cigars with tipping paper and tubes by the end of April 2025.“This bold step will make health warning messages virtually unavoidable,” Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett said Wednesday. The warnings — in English and French — include “poison in every puff,” “tobacco smoke harms children” and “cigarettes cause impotence.”Health Canada said the strategy aims to reduce tobacco use below 5% by 2035. Bruce Willis’ daughter describes early signs of dementia family missed Tallulah Willis, the youngest daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, knew for a long time that something wasn’t quite right about her famous father, whom she remembers as being “cool and charming and slick and stylish and sweet and a little wacky.”What wasn’t right was hard to define, the 29-year-old said in a new essay for Vogue.  “It started out with a kind of vague unresponsiveness, which the family chalked up to Hollywood hearing loss,” Tallaluh Willis said in the essay, explaining that her mother and her father’s current wife, Emma Heming Willis, wondered if explosions and other loud sound effects surrounding the 68-year-old actor on movie sets damaged his hearing.HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – NOVEMBER 18: Tallulah Belle Willis attends the screening of “Hala” during AFI FEST 2019 presented by Audi at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres on November 18, 2019 in Hollywood, California. SF Giants end superb month of May on sour note with series loss to Pirates SAN FRANCISCO — Giants starter Alex Wood squatted on the mound and grimaced, sporting the look of a pitcher who couldn’t seem to buy an out, for no fault of his own. The latest piece of weak contact squeaked through the infield, leading to yet another Pirates run.Wood was chased in the fifth inning as the Giants (28-28) dropped their series finale to the Pirates, 9-4, despite few Pittsburgh batters squaring him up.The dirt and grass stains on the eggshell white uniforms of the Giants infielders were as representative of the plays that they made as their futile efforts on the balls that got past them. It wasn’t lost on manager Gabe Kapler, who felt the need to bring it up with his infielders on one mound visit.“I was making mention to (third baseman) J.D. (Davis) and (shortstop) Casey (Schmitt) about how much diving there was going on on the left side of the infield to try to catch some of those ground balls,” Kapler said. “Everybody’s fine, but it...
