Ron DeSantis (R) to oversee Disney in the state said it will sue the company, escalating the feud between the entertainment giant and the Republican governor after the company sued the state in federal court last week.Disney sued Florida, alleging that the state unjustly retaliated against it for its public opposition to a law in the state that prohibits the teaching of gender identity and sexuality for certain grades, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.Martin Garcia, the chair of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, whose members were appointed by DeSantis to oversee Disney’s development in the state, said at a meeting on Monday that the board would sue the company in state court.“Disney sued us, we have no choice now but to respond,” Garcia said. “The district will seek justice in state court here in central Florida where both it and Disney reside and do business.”The Hill has reached out to Disney for comment.The fight between...Mayor encouraging New Yorkers to put AirTags in cars to fight auto theft

NEW YORK (WPIX) -- New York City Mayor Eric Adams unveiled a new plan Sunday to give away Apple AirTags with the hope of catching car thieves.The Big Apple is giving away 500 Apple AirTags across the New York Police Department's 43rd Precinct, which covers the southeast Bronx. The area has recorded 207 car thefts since the start of 2023. Most of the thefts involve Kias, Hyundais and Hondas. Carmen Parrilla lives in Castle Hill and said on Sunday that her neighbor’s car was stolen three days before. She is hoping to receive a free AirTag.“They come into our neighborhoods, it’s like homes at night and everybody’s sleeping,” said Parrilla. “They just do what they do and they’re very professional about it.” The Association for Better New York is donating the AirTags, which allow a user to track their whereabouts in real-time on an iPhone. AUSTIN (KXAN) — You never know what you might come across on Lady Bird Lake in Austin. A "monster" 31.5-pound was caught recently in the lake, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said on Twitter. SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Jury selection for the trial of Nauman Hussain began May 1, 2023. The morning was mostly procedural, the judge spent the first half of the day walking potential jurors through the rules and the indictment. Hussain is charged with 20 counts of criminally negligent homicide for his alleged role in the Schoharie limo crash that killed 20 people back in 2018. (NEWS10) -- Retired Senior Investigator Nicholas Georgeadis, 52, passed away on Friday, April 28, from an illness stemming from his assignment around the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, according to New York State Police. PLATTEKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State Troopers arrested two men in Plattekill during a traffic stop on Interstate 87 after locating cocaine in a hidden compartment within the vehicle. During the stop, troopers said Henry identified himself by a different name and date of birth, but troopers eventually learned his real identity.Troopers say they were granted permission to search the vehicle. LOUIS - Two assistant prosecutors in the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office have resigned after being summoned for contempt of court hearings, along with their boss, Kim Gardner.Attorney Chris Desilets' resignation is effective immediately. On April 27, Judge Michael Noble scheduled "indirect contempt of court" hearings for both Desilets and Gardner, after Desilets no-showed an April 10 court date for a shooting case.The shooting case is about an Oct. 2020 incident in which an 11-year-old girl was struck by a stray bullet. Steven Vincent, 28, faces nine counts, including first-degree assault, for the shooting.Desilets had another attorney pass a note to Judge Noble, explaining that he had to miss court for a doctor’s appointment.Noble asked Desilets to appear in court on April 24 with proof of the doctor’s appointment and to reschedule the start of trial. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois lawmakers have introduced a bill that would no longer make it illegal for drivers to have items hanging from their rearview mirror.According to House Bill 2389, police would no longer have the authority to stop a motorist for having an item, like an air freshener, hanging from their rearview mirror while driving.The bill was proposed by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias and Rep.
