Associated PressMEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican officials celebrated Wednesday the announcement that the country finally developed its own COVID-19 vaccine, more than two years after inoculations from the U.S., Europe and China were rolled out.It was unclear what use would be made of the vaccine, named “Patria” or “Motherland,” developed in a joint effort between the government and a Mexican company, Avimex, which previously did work on animal vaccines.Vaccine uptake in Mexico dropped precipitously in late 2022 and 2023, and Mexico still has millions of doses of the Abdala vaccine it bought from Cuba.María Elena Álvarez-Buylla, the head of Mexico’s government commission for science and technology, said the new vaccine would be approved for use as a booster shot. She did not say whether the government medical approval agency had formally authorized the Patria vaccine.Mexico started developing the Patria vaccine in March 2020. But testing was s...Hunting, conservation groups back cuts in big-game licenses to help herds recover

A coalition of hunters, wildlife advocates and conservationists supports substantial cuts in the number of big-game hunting licenses proposed for northwest Colorado and believes even deeper reductions might be needed to help herds recover from the region’s severe winter.Reductions of more than 60% in licenses for some species in certain areas were on the table as the Colorado Wildlife Commission met Wednesday in Glenwood Springs.Deep snows and harsh conditions caused deer, elk, pronghorns and other animals to migrate out of northwest Colorado this winter. State wildlife officials have said many animals starved to death or died when struck by vehicles while foraging for food along roads, Colorado Parks and Wildlife managers have said.In January, a semitrailer driving east on U.S. 40 near Dinosaur plowed through a group of 35 pronghorns, CPW said. A herd of 19 pronghorns was hit by a pickup a few days later near Craig.Eleven groups in the Colorado Wildlife Conservation Project w...6 workers rescued after construction site collapse in Glendale

Six workers who had been trapped after a roof collapsed at a Glendale construction site Wednesday morning were rescued by firefighters. The incident was reported around 11 a.m. in the 1200 block of Glendale Avenue, according to the Glendale Fire Department. Firefighters at a nearby station heard a loud rumble and were able to get on scene quickly, Anita Shandi of the Glendale Fire Department told KTLA. They found that the metal roof trusses of a movie studio under construction in the area collapsed for an unknown reason. Three workers were trapped in a lift about 40 feet in the air and firefighters were using an aerial ladder to try and reach them, video from Sky5 showed. Three others were on the ground when the roof collapsed and were stuck under rubble. As of 1:20 p.m. four out of six workers had been rescued, but two were still trapped, officials said. Around 10 minutes later, the remaining two had been rescued, thanks to aerial resources from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Wars are gruesome, deadly, and horrifying despite movies glorifying soldiers killing enemies under the perception of patriotism or heroism. Wars have far-reaching physical and psychological implications for soldiers and their families, typically not depicted in movies or shows. Hollywood usually depicts wars as a means of national unity, bonding among soldiers, and soldiers’ heroism in defending their country or national spirit. Many books about war also glorify soldiers or their unique relationships with their peers, friends, and loved ones. However, Hollywood does not show war’s gruesome consequences, leaving thousands of soldiers crippled or dead. Popular media does not show how war instills lifelong psychological implications in survivors in the form of depression, PTSD, and other disorders. Aaron’s War by Richard McMaster is a unique book offering an entirely different perspective by highlighting the adverse implications of the war on soldiers.Thousands of books portray WWII ci...James Tzitzon – Bringing the History of the Registry of Motor Vehicle Inspector to Life
